love and biology

Last night our back door was blocked from entry.  As I reached the top of our stairs I realized there were two things wrong.  Firstly, there was a massive wolf spider starring me down eight times over, and wouldn't budge.  And secondly, I could not do a thing about it and therefore was not able to get into the house.

This is where love and biology come together.  In moments, which tend to be often, like these.

Ryan (my husband, which you will hear plenty of I'm sure) saw a cute little wolf-y spider.  I however, saw the end of my life.  Simple as that.

Seriously, what do you do?  What do you do when there are two individuals that share one moment with differing perspectives AND may or may not handle the situation in the same way?

My husband is a self professed science and environmental nerd.  We spent an entire 30 minutes on our honeymoon watching a stick bug look like a stick.  I thought the stick was a stick, but turns out it was a bug.  There is no way on God's green earth I would have seen that stick bug had Ryan not gasped and scared the mess out of me as he called me over to see 'this!'  But, it really was!  It really was a stick bug, and my eyes saw something that it had never seen before!

Now, Ryan is not solely biology; and I am far from being solely love.  However, when the two begin to come together I see better and fuller.

What I am learning is that there are things, people, thoughts, and possibilities that I have never known before.  The lesson of being open to learning is stirring my heart to open up even more to what this life is:  this Life that God has given us to deepen and enrich our hearts in ways we never would have known.

That's what brings me here, and what my heart can't not share.

The creep spider kept its gaze(s) as I uneasily took one step, then another over its poised and kindly positioned body.  I stepped over it because Ryan told me the invasive species didn't hate me, and actually seemed pretty friendly.  Lies and truth collide.

Ryan gave him a cute wave and wished the little guy a farewell before we FINALLY closed the back door.   My heart was POUNDING.  It was a normal day in Ryan's world.

Agreeing isn't always the most important thing to me; even though it is a sweet finale.  It's more valuable to me to be open to listen and receive.  God is moving me to wonder.  I want to create a habit to be amazed and changed.  Plus, being wondered makes me feel alive.  And based off of what I do see, this world may want to come alive too.

Let's live.
